The brothers of Delta Kappa Phi are always involved with Greek on-campus events, intramural sports and other student activities. In the last year, they have also been heavily involved in bringing back an emerging business club – the Operations and Informations Systems club (OIS for short). Brothers Vladimir Petrovsky B1581 and Robin Calderon B1606 were the President & Vice President of the club respectively, but brothers Bill Liston B1585 and Matthew Wiseman B1592 also put in a strong effort to put on some great on-campus events. The club was recognized by the Manning School of Business department for its efforts in the Spring 2014 semester at the end of the year, as well as received full support from MSB faculty going forward.
Other than the many events the members attended, the OIS club put on two awesome events for business students on April 25, 2014. The first event was a talk from a guest speaker, David Araujo, who is the Vice President of IT at DCU. This event provided support and opportunities for many management information systems majors at UMass Lowell. The event lasted for about an hour and a half, and was well-received by the students and the business faculty. The second event was a speaker panel centered around the idea of exploring the trade-offs between working in the industry versus starting your own business. This event could not have been possible without the support of our alumni Mike Marquis B1248 and David Dahn B1334 (and others), as well as many of the active brothers. The event was essentially a long Q&A session with four panelists that featured a variety of business-themed questions from members of the audience that was preceded by a light dinner reception. It was an awesome time and will surely be one of many of its kind for the club, as well as hopefully involve even more of our alumni in the future.
