The yearly Alumni Hockey game was held on February 19th, 2016. The turnout this year, as usual, was fantastic, with almost 40 Brothers in attendance. The game was a rivalry match between the UMass Lowell Riverhawks against the UMass Amherst Minutemen. The Riverhawks managed to pull a 4-2 victory over the Minutemen in an exciting game.
Inside the Town Club, Brothers enjoyed reminiscing about their good old days back at the Big Red House, and many stories were exchanged. A large variety of people came, including members of the DCF, members of the Supreme Policy Committee, the Active Brotherhood, Brothers throughout the ages, as well as their friends and family.
On Saturday, February 6th, some Brothers from DK went down to Pawtucket Congregational Church to help out with their monthly soup kitchen they hold. Brothers helped prepare the grilled sandwiches, serve soup, and pour beverages for the church’s guests.
Brother Scribe Max Lane had the following to say: “It is necessary for brothers to attend multiple community service events. The soup kitchen is one of the numerous ways Delta Kappa Phi cares for it’s community.”
I was also there, and I have to say that the whole experience was very enjoyable, from setting up for the day, to having great conversations with the people who came. The whole event happened in large thanks to Brother Dan Sartorius B1603, who helped coordinate with the church staff ever so well. Moving forward, the Brothers of Delta Kappa Phi will continue to support local charitable organizations, and reaching more people in need.
The Brothers over at Delta Kappa Phi have been keeping themselves busy over the past few months. As you may know, the older wooden egress has slowly started to deteriorate over the past 40 years since its construction. While that was an unfortunate situation, the Brothers of DK rallied together to raise enough donations to spearhead both projects on a new metal spiral staircase, and a modern electrical system.
Brothers from all generations have prided themselves on the work they have done to Big Red, and for the current Active and a healthy presence of experienced Alumni, the egress was no different. Over the past four months, Brothers not only deconstructed the old egress, but also laid the concrete foundation for the new egress. The staircase was installed on Friday, Sept 11th 2015, with a large presence of Brothers.
The completion of the egress only marks the first of many projects Big Red will undergo this year. With continued work and dedication, improvements will continue for many months to come.
